NeverAtHome welcomes Victor Ruiz Colomer for a short-term residency in July 2026. In Victor Ruiz Colomer’s recent practice illumination is a means to work with the material conditions that sustain a ‘projection’. Alluding to the psychological state where feelings are displaced beyond one’s body and the electrical resources needed to flatten a moving image over a specific surface - even a specific timeframe.
During his residency at NeverAtHome, Ruiz Colomer will further develop a series oflighting dynamics stemming from recent work previously presented at CC Can Felipa (Barcelona), Cibrián (Donostia–San Sebastián) and ongoing lighting work for Aplauso, Vicio, a performance in collaboration with Élise Moreau and noela covelo velasco. Parallely he will be working on textual scripts in retrospective relation to the mentioned exhibitions in Barcelona and Donostia. These works will be placed in dialogue with research developed alongside Carmen Lael Hines on the Friedensreich Hundertwasser-designed Spittelau Waste Incineration Plant in Vienna. As a municipally managed energy and waste infrastructure, Spittelau offers a compelling case study in which architecture, thermodynamics, energy distribution and environmental engineering converge, becoming symbols for public imagination. The project considers how systems of energy circulation simultaneously operate as systems of visual representation and cultural mediation. The presentation will take the form of a live performance of a script.
Víctor Ruiz Colomer's residency forms part of the NeverAtHome residency programme exploring intersections between art, technology and science. The programme is curated by Carmen Lael Hines and supported by the Spanish Embassy in Austria.

As part of his residency, Víctor Ruiz Colomer presents a live performance of a script bringing together his ongoing research into illumination, projection, and energy systems. The performance expands on recent lighting works presented at CC Can Felipa (Barcelona) and Cibrián (Donostia–San Sebastián), as well as his ongoing collaboration with Élise Moreau and noela covelo velasco for Aplauso, Vicio.

The performative project takes Gianni Rodari’s classic children’s book The Adventures of Cipollino (1951) as its point of departure, while deliberately avoiding adaptation. Instead, the narrative gradually dissolves into images, voices, memories and gestures. In a darkened room, the audience moves over the course of two hours through shifting moments of video projection, sound, darkness and live performance. Three video works by Paulo Wirz frame the performances by Niels Poiz and Bianca Millan, whose flashlight gradually reveals the space and its presences, including Bert McLean’s painting Potato Painting. The result is an atmospheric environment that asks what remains of a story once its plot disappears.

On September 27, Funkhaus Vienna can be explored through free guided tours as part of Open House Wien (September 25–27). The tours focus on the architecture and history of the building but also offer insights into the current artist studios on site.
Open House Wien opens the doors to buildings that are normally not accessible to the public. The tours are free of charge, no registration needed.

As part of SESSIONS, NeverAtHome invites architect, curator, and educator Eduardo Castillo Vinuesa for What Does It Take to Make Weather? A Brief, Incomplete History of Skycraft. The workshop explores humanity’s evolving relationship with the atmosphere — from early meteorological tools and systems of observation to cloud seeding, digital simulations, and geoengineering projects. Through this investigation, Eduardo examines how the sky has become a space of technological intervention, political negotiation, and ecological uncertainty.
